Man sought by police, arrested and in court

The man who was sought by the police as a person of interest in an investigation regarding at least four murders has been arrested.

Xabiso Mngcongo (34) was arrested and appeared in court today.

The Middelburg Observer published an article on our website about the BOLO WhatsApp group, which helps look for missing persons and other cases.

One of their recent posts was that of Mngcongo, whom a task team from Joza SAPS was looking for.

A reward of up to R50 000 was offered by the police for information that could assist in locating Mngcongo. He is a person of interest in their investigation of at least four murders committed between November 2022 and June 2024 in Kwazakhele (Gqeberha) and Joza (Makhanda).

The investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Barend Lensley, just confirmed that Mngcongo handed himself over to the police and has appeared in court.
