BOLO group helps find missing persons, stolen vehicles

This BOLO-group wants to help locate missing people, especially.

An active WhatsApp group called ‘BOLO’ shows that the disappearance of children and hijackings are on the rise in South Africa!

In police and security groups, the word BOLO stands for Be On the Lookout, and that is exactly why it is the name of the group, to help the police locate missing people, especially, and to help find stolen cars and motorcycles.

One of the admins of the group, Jacques van der Walt, confirmed they’ve seen a rise in missing children and hijackings.

On the question of where they get their information on missing persons, he mentioned it’s from other reliable sources and groups.

When a person or vehicle is found, it is also immediately posted on the group.

• One of the most recent posts is that of a person of interest, whom a task team from Joza SAPS is looking for.

A reward of up to R50 000 will be given for information that could assist in locating the person of interest, in connection with at least four murders committed between November 2022 and June 2024 in Kwazakhele (Gqeberha) and Joza (Makhanda).

Most victims were not armed, and one of them was a retired police officer.

The person of interest, Xabiso Mngcongo (34), is wanted for questioning, and the police believe he could assist with their investigation.

Anyone who may be able to assist or may have information about the whereabouts of Mngcongo is requested to contact the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Barend Lensley, on 082 442 3747. Information may also be shared via Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
(Lensley confirmed that the above-mentioned information on the group is correct and that they are still looking for Mngcongo).

• Several Middelburg residents are on the BOLO group, but Van der Walt mentioned that anyone who needs help in South Africa is welcome to be part of the group.
