Video: Burglars damage palisade gate and window

If the tenant in a flat didn’t wake up, burglars would have climbed through a window into the flat where he is staying.

Ms Pabetse Mahlake wants to warn residents in Dennesig that criminals are roaming the streets in their area.

She mentioned that they woke up at about 03:20 yesterday morning when two burglars ran past their window in Harry Gwala Street, after they tried to break out a whole window at the flat.

“If the tenant didn’t wake up and open the curtains, they would have climbed into the flat!”

Mahlake said the burglars entered their yard at about 03:00, “My 13-year-old daughter was busy studying and sent me a WhatsApp at 03:01, telling me that she heard something outside, but I did not hear the message.” Her daughter went to sleep when everything went quiet seconds later.

Shortly thereafter, the tenant in the flat woke up to a strange sound at the window, and when he opened the curtains, the two burglars fled. Mahlake said they all woke up when the villains ran away and scuffled to get through the gate.

When they went outside, they saw that the palisade gate had been forced open to gain access to the property and to get out again, “They did not take it from the rail, they only forced a small area open so they could get through.”

The burglars attempted to remove the entire aluminium window frame.
