WATCH: Neighbours press panic button on motorcycle thieves during Viljoen Street break-in

The motorcycle reduced fuel costs for the owner to R250 per month

Despite neighbours pressing the panic button, sounding a deafening alarm, a group of motorcycle thieves made off with a Viljoen Street resident’s Bad Boy TSR250 shortly after 02:00 this morning.

Timestamped CCTV video footage capturing the break-in and theft shows the gang leaving the Viljoen Street premises at 02:13 with the motorcycle.

The owner, Riaan Beukman, said his neighbour across the street heard the gang breaking open his rollup garage door during the break-in, after breaking through his security gate.

The bike thieves made such a ruckus by breaking open the garage door that the neighbour woke up, and immediately pressed the panic button of his home, sounding off a deafening alarm.

The neighbour, meanwhile, also phoned Beukman to inform him about the break-in, with Beukman missing the call.

He phoned his neighbour back and was informed of the break-in and theft in progress.

Beukman says his bedroom is situated far from his garage, and when he exited his home, the gang had already left.

The gang loaded the motorcycle on the back of a white 1400 bakkie and sped away before anyone could stop them.

Beukman said he parked his Fortuner in his garage in such a way as to prevent easy removal of the bike from the garage.

The gang first tried to manoeuvre the motorcycle to the outside from underneath the Fortuner.

When the neighbour’s panic alarm started blaring, they quickly lifted the motorcycle over the Fortuner before making off with it.

The motorcycle was loaded on the back of the bakkie within seconds before the gang escaped.

Beukman said five figures could be seen on CCTV footage, which was supplied to the Middelburg Observer.

The footage is too grainy to identify the registration plate of the bakkie.

Beukman has, meanwhile, reached out to neighbours around him to possibly obtain clearer footage.

Beukman, a manager of OK Grocers, said he bought the motorcycle to travel between work and home.

He said his fuel consumption with the motorcycle cost him around R250 per month.

“I’m very angry because I work hard for my money, and support a family,” he told the Middelburg Observer.

The black Bad Boy motorcycle’s registration is LDY 822 MP.

The motorcycle only has 1590km on the odometer.

He requests anyone with information on the whereabouts of the motorcycle, and identities of those involved in the break-in and theft, to contact him on 064 608 6194.
