Relocation from Middelburg Hospital to King Nyabela Hospital in progress

The Mpumalanga Department of Health urges residents to visit local clinics for referrals before attending the new facility.

As the process of moving staff and patients into the new King Nyabela Hospital from the old Middelburg Provincial Hospital is underway, there are some important things you need to know.

King Nyabela Hospital is now fully operational and ready to receive patients; however, community members are advised first to visit their local healthcare clinics to obtain a referral letter to the hospital.

Where possible, patients must use their primary healthcare clinics for assistance.

The families of admitted patients are also encouraged to visit the hospital to check on their loved ones.

Some of the more stable and eligible patients may be granted a ‘day pass’ to reduce the pressure on the system during the relocation process.

The process of moving patients started last Monday, and the Department of Health in Mpumalanga has not indicated when the process will be completed, as their priority is to ensure the move poses no risk to the patients.

• In case of emergencies which may require diversion, patients can be taken to Emalahleni Hospital and the Impungwe Hospital.
