Young boy among three killed in N4 crash near Middelburg

Three people, including a young boy, died in a crash on the N4 near Middelburg yesterday, with several others injured.

A tragic crash on the N4 near the Middelburg Dam yesterday claimed the lives of three people, among them a young boy, and left multiple others injured.

The collision happened on the lane towards Belfast and involved two vehicles: a Toyota Hilux and an Opel Corsa. A male driver and two passengers, the boy and a woman, died at the scene.

According to initial information, one of the vehicles was travelling from Belfast side when the driver lost control, veered into oncoming traffic and collided with the second vehicle heading toward Middelburg.

In a press release issued by the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety and Liaison, it was confirmed that two young girls were seriously injured. Another male driver, as well as two passengers, a woman and a young boy, sustained light injuries.

Emergency personnel attended to the scene and traffic was heavily affected for several hours while investigations continued.

The victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
