Multiple streets blocked after trees fall across Middelburg

Middelburg's motorists are urged to avoid the affected areas as fourth fallen tree in the last 24 hours, has left roads blocked disrupting traffic and raising safety concerns across town.

Middelburg is battling widespread damage form recent storms. The town’s roads have been hit by a wave of fallen trees following heavy rain and strong winds, with four streets affected in and around town in the past 24 hours.

The latest incidents, reported on Monday, include:

  • Gourits Street, Aerorand – A tree fell opposite Kosmospark Retirement Village, leaving only a narrow gap for motorists.
  • Weaver Street, Komati – A large tree toppled and is blocking the entire road, forcing drivers to use alternative routes.

These follow two collapses reported through the night, early hours today:

  • Meidoring Street, Kanonkop – A tree came down during the storm, obstructing traffic.
  • Sipres Street, Kanonkop – Another tree fell amid severe weather, adding to the growing list of storm-related hazards.

Motorists are urged to drive cautiously, avoid the affected areas where possible, and expect delays as clean-up operations continue.

Ward councilor and relevant maintenance teams have been notified.
