One killed yesterday in R35 collision near Komati Power Station

It was reported that the R35 accident scene was only cleared shortly after midnight, possibly due to the high number of accidents and fatalities recorded yesterday.

One person died in the R35 accident by the Komati Power Station between Middelburg and Bethal. The accident occurred yesterday at around 17:30.

Three vehicles and a truck were involved in the collision that left one man dead. According to responders on the scene, it appeared one of the vehicles couldn’t stop in time and rear-ended another vehicle, which led to a pile-up involving more vehicles.

Responders were on the scene until after 01:00 this morning before the scene was cleared. The reason for the delay is suspected to be the numerous accidents that occurred yesterday in Middelburg’s surrounding areas, where fatalities were also reported.

• Another accident was reported yesterday at around 15:00, near the Olifants River bridge heading towards eMalahleni on the N4. It was reported that people lost their lives; however, the number of fatalities is unclear at this stage.
