Police probing dyadic-murder of DA Provincial Director in Margate

Couple found dead in New Year's Margate bloodbath.

The lady shot and killed on January 1 in Margate during an alleged domestic spat has been identified as Middelburg resident Sarbhera Amod (38).

Amod, the Mpumalanga DA’s Provincial Director, was on holiday with family when she was allegedly shot and killed by her new partner during a domestic dispute in their rental flat in Margate.

After fatally wounding Amod, the alleged killer turned the gun on himself.

He was declared dead on the scene alongside Amod, who was shot in the head.

According to a close friend and colleague of Amod, she had been dating the unidentified man for around two months before the tragedy.

The alleged shooter accompanied Amod, her mother, her brother, and their partners to Margate for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

Amod was a staunch activist against gender-based violence and served on the DA’s Women’s Network.

As provincial director, she was also the administrative head of the DA in Mpumalanga.

According to DA Provincial Chairman Bosman Grobler, Amod will be laid to rest this coming Saturday in eMalahleni, where her mother lives, and she grew up.

A memorial service will also be held on Thursday in eMalahleni for friends and colleagues.

Amod lived in Middelburg at the time of her murder.

A 9mm Beretta was found on the scene.

The shooting happened after Amod’s partner allegedly disapproved of the skirt she was wearing, and a heated argument broke out between the couple in their room.

Amod’s mother discovered the bodies.

She did not have any children.
