Middelburg N4 motorists: Dashcam footage of Waterval Boven tunnel pile-up
Dashcam footage shared on social media shows the fatal multi-vehicle crash that shut the Waterval Boven tunnel on the N4 near Middelburg on February 19.
Dashcam footage linked to the multi-vehicle crash inside the Waterval Boven tunnel on the N4 has been received by the Middelburg Observer, days after reporting on the incident that brought traffic to a standstill.
The crash involved two trucks and multiple other vehicles inside the tunnel, resulting in the complete closure of the route for several hours.
The footage, reportedly recorded from a vehicle involved in the crash, provides visual context of traffic conditions inside the tunnel shortly before and after the collision.
Emergency services responded to the scene and carried out recovery operations in the confined tunnel space. The N4 was reopened later that evening once the scene had been cleared.
According to reports, one fatality was confirmed, while nine people sustained minor injuries, three people were seriously injured and one person was treated for a life-threatening injury.
The footage highlights the importance of road safety and motorists are urged to exercise caution when travelling through tunnels and high-traffic routes.
