STAY AWAY – Typhoid confirmed in streams around Rockdale

Rockdale rocked by typhoid.

The municipality issued a public warning to avoid streams around Rockdale after the streams tested positive for typhoid.

The municipality also noted a positive typhoid case in Rockdale already, though it has not been confirmed by health authorities.

The municipality says no other water sources of the town tested positive for now.

In stead of tackling the cause, the municipality shifted responsibility to Rockdale residents urging them to wash their hands, fruit and vegetables properly with tap water.

The announcement comes on the back of yesterday’s (Tuesday) chaos at Ekwazini Secondary in Mhluzi where 52 learners had to be rushed to hospital with symptoms of nausea, diarrhea and fever.

Local health inspectors have already taken samples of the snack, It Krunchy Nax, for testing.

Tests will also be conducted on the school’s water, as well as feeding scheme meals served on Tuesday.

The municipality has barricaded paths to the Rockdale streams to combat further spread.
