Watch: Stoffberg R555 still closed for fuel tanker recovery after killer crash

The highly flammable fuel is being transferred to another tanker.

Frustrated motorists cut through a farmer’s fence on the Stoffberg Road to gain access to a farm road around an earlier accident scene, where the fire brigade cordoned off a blast radius stretching hundreds of metres.

An Iveco carrier and fuel tanker collided head-on shortly after 05:00 this morning.

One person has been confirmed dead.

The fuel tanker landed on its side following the collision.

A farmer earlier opened his farm road to traffic, but on instruction from the local fire brigade and hazmat team, the road had to be closed due to its close proximity to the R555.

The farmer had to turn multiple angry motorists away despite the fire brigade having cordoned off the road in both directions for safety reasons while the recovery operation continued.

The roads are closed, including farm roads around the scene, on strict instruction of first responders.
