Two arrested for raw gold possession

One suspect was granted bail, while the other remains in custody.

Two suspects, aged 45 and 47 years old, were arrested for the possession of raw gold after being pulled over by the police during a random stop-and-search.

The Middelburg Flying Squad were patrolling when they spotted a white Amarok double cab on Tuesday.

They stopped the vehicle and requested to search the car. The members spotted a plastic bag containing raw gold in rock form.

The suspects were confronted and questioned by the police officers. According to the suspects, they were merely transporting the rocks to a laboratory.

They were arrested on the spot.

Both accused appeared in court yesterday (May 13).

Accused number one was released on R2 000 bail, while bail was denied for accused number two.
