Middelburg SAPS seize 27 kg stolen copper, arrest two suspects

Police arrested two suspects after copper cables worth thousands and drugs were seized in separate incidents on August 7 in Middelburg.

Two suspects were arrested in separate incidents in Middelburg on Friday, 7 August, after police seized a hidden bag of copper cables and drugs.

R 5000 + copper found

The Middelburg Crime Prevention team was conducting stop-and-search operations and visible policing on the R555 Old Witbank Road when officers stopped a white VW Polo Vivo.

During a search of the vehicle, police found a 27kg bag of copper cables in the boot.

According local W/O Nonhlanhla Mdluli, it has been estimated that the stolen copper is valued at around R5 130.

The suspect was arrested and charged at Middelburg Police Station. The vehicle and copper cables were seized and booked into police custody.

CBD drug bust

In a separate incident in the Middelburg CBD, police arrested a 42-year-old man for possession of drugs.

Both suspects are expected to appear in the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, August 11.

The arrests formed part of ongoing crime prevention operations in the Middelburg and greater Nkangala area.
