Jele hosts Easter Tournament
Orlando Pirates superstar and Mhluzi’s pride, Happy Jele, hosted what has become an annual soccer tournament over Easter weekend at the Themba Sinamela Stadium.
Featuring 12 of the best soccer clubs in Middelburg, the knock-out tournament was attended by hundreds of spectators and fans over the four day event, which was also sponsored by Barloworld Toyota and Coca Cola.
In a one-sided final Mhluzi Black Rangers thrashed Dream Team by five goals to nil – and in doing so walked away with a floating trophy, gold medals for each player and the grand prize of R17 000.
As runners-up, Dream Team were awarded with Silver Medals and R10 000 prize money. Teams also received brand new soccer kits sponsored by Happy Jele.
Soccer equipment for the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament, the Best Player and the highest goal scorer were also handed out.
Jele’s biggest fan and Orlando Pirates supporter, Mayor Mike Masina, also attended the event and handed out prizes to all winners.
Jele has pledged to host the tournament in Mhluzi annually over Easter weekend as a means of developing soccer players in his hometown and along the streets where he started a career as a professional soccer player.
