Seven of the nine players in the team – Aiden Vandenbrouck (captain), David Blenkinsop (vice-captain), Andrew Martin, Aidan Viljoen, Alec Jordaan, Craig Russell and Gysbert Ehlers – are from Hoërskool Middelburg.

They played 12 games to be placed second on the log, having lost only the first game by three runs to the Titans (the tournament favourites).

Mpumalanga was the only team with a points difference of over a 1000 runs. They had 1058 compared to nearest rivals, the Titans, who had 873.

Aiden’s team defeated Eastern Province to book a place in the semi-finals, where they were victorious against Gauteng Vikings to meet the Titans in the final. In dramatic fashion and showing some Middie guts, they were crowned as the champions.
