Video: The towns own ‘sex house’

Dark passages with dirty lights, rows and rows of rooms, some doors open, some doors closed.

Ever wondered what you will get when you walk up the stairs of the building on the corner of O.R. Tambo and SADC Streets? Now you know.

Middelburg has got it’s own “sex house”. A dark poorly lit building where women wait alone in a 4 x 4 metre room. Their main source of income – sex.

Once you are in, women with hungry eyes are ripe for the picking. Choose anyone you want.

The Middelburg Observer obtained videomaterial of the women waiting in their doors, and flashing their private parts and making obscene suggestions as you walk past. Once you have made your choice you go in and close the door.

“You pay R150 for mlungus and R100 for muntus,” you can hear one of the women say.

Another calls the man walking past back.

“Come here, I want to @!#% you,” she says. Two women follow, when the man turns around, they flash their private parts.

Yet another woman stands in her door with one breast hanging out. Whether she is of age is debatable. When asked she says that she pays R3 300 for the room per month.

“Not many of them “work”. Sex is their work. Some of them go out to the streets for business but they return to their rooms at about midnight,” someone who has been to the makeshift brothel says.

“Not many white men come here, but when they do, they come to f*ck,” one of the women says on the video. The purpose of these rooms are not to do drugs but sex, although using drugs are allowed.

To stay the whole night will cost you R700, to have a threesome R500.

During an interview with someone that has been inside, he says that there are two sets op prices, one for mlungu’s (white men) and one for muntus (black men).

The owner of the building, Mr Gerhard Strydom, says that he has nothing to do with the renting of the rooms.

“I rent the premises to someone and what he does with it is not my concern.”

The person who handles the renting of the rooms, Deon Strydom, says every single person renting from him has a job because he has a list with their contact numbers on it.

“It is absolute nonsense that a brothel is being run from there. We keep a tight rain on the people that rent there.”

He says that the police visit the premises regularly for drugs and other illegal activities.

“If there is a problem, I will handle it and put those people out. I refuse. I have a guy that checks on those people almost 24 hours a day.”
