‘Something fishy’ in Klip Street

Houses used as shelters from where prostitutes can conduct their business are popping up like mushrooms. Residents in Middelburg Central have complained about a house in Klip Street where "something fishy" is happening for the past two weeks.

“At night they dance in the street and intimidate passing cars.

One woman did not have a single thread of clothing on. I had to push my child’s head under the dashboard to keep him from seeing it,” a resident in the area complained.

Another woman who lives close by said that cars can be seen picking up women regularly.

She also says that company bakkies are often seen pulling into the yard whereafter the gate is shut.

“We all know that something fishy is happening there. And we all have a pretty good idea what it is, but there is very little we can do about it.”

The house currently in the process of being sold.

Whilst it is between owners, it has been rented out to a company who rents out rooms to individuals.

The estate agent, Adri Beukes, said that she has been swamped with complaints about the new tenants.

“The house stood empty for a long time and it was stripped by thieves for scrap metal.

We decided to put people in to prevent that from happening again. The new owner is a decent person and she and her family will be moving in as soon as the paperwork is sorted out.”

She said that the woman who is currently renting the house assured her that the rooms are occupied by “students”.

The woman who is responsible for the tenants could not be reached for comment.
