Update: Observer truck torched
The Observer truck which was set alight last week Thursday in Thembisa Mhluzi could have been by the same violent protesters who targeted and burnt down company vehicles early this year in the township, that is according to the Observer's truck driver Mr Zacharia Motsoeneng (44).
“I am certain of this because as we were standing on the side watching the truck burn a woman yelled at the crowd of men.”
“You guys are hooligans because the very same truck you burning brings us news and advertisements of the jobs you are looking for,” said Zacharia Motsoeneng.
The truck was also searched by the men before being set alight, rumours later spread of men selling the Observer and Witbank News at the very same spot the truck was burnt.
“It is generally difficult to make arrests with public violence as its a large group of people and people are scared to talk however an intensive investigation has been launched by the police,” said w/o Lize De Witt.
A case of malicious damage to property has been opened.
The article on Facebook stirred up racial comments and mixed feeling regarding the incident.
Bongani Kevin Mnguni wrote: “Okay fine the truck is burned what did they achieve? If they were looking for jobs after burning the truck was anyone of them employed? Mxm low life thugs.”
•The damage have being estimated to be R400 000.
