Middelburg Mall Art Competition
Middelburg Mall is giving you the opportunity to let your imagination run wild and share what you love most with the rest of the community through its annual art competition.
Running for its fourth consecutive year, the Middelburg Mall Art Competition is open to all Middelburg and Mpumalanga residents.
This year’s theme – ‘this is what I love’ -widens the scope of the competition and means artists can create and enter any subject from the many beautiful landmarks in and around Middelburg to a photograph or painting of your beloved pet.
“Community-driven projects really excite us,” says Middelburg Mall Centre Manager, Mike Tammadge. “The idea behind the competition is to involve our community and invite them to express their love in art. And, we’ll share the love by displaying their artwork.”
He adds: “Our community also gets to add their own personal touch to our walls on a more permanent basis. We do this by purchasing some of the art which is entered and displaying it throughout the mall.
We currently have two art walls located in the mall – filled mostly with pieces bought from the previous year’s artists. We are incredibly proud to showcase the talent.”
The competition is divided into three different categories: ages 0 – 13 years for painting, drawing and handcrafts, ages 14 – 18 years for painting, drawing, handcrafts and photography and an Adults category for painting, drawing, handcrafts, photography and sculpture.
Entries are now open, with the final day to submit your entries being 3 July 2015. All entered artwork will be displayed in Middelburg Mall, and there are also some really awesome prizes up for grabs for the winning art piece in each category.
“Based on entries from previous years, we’re really excited to see what this year’s competition brings,” says Tammadge.
“There’s no doubt that our community has an abundance of artistic talent and we are proud to give them the public platform to display their work. This competition promises to provide budding artists the exposure they need to get their names out there”.
