Managing Director of ADT Central Region, Clive Humphrey, said only one incident was reported to ADT over the last week.
On 22 June at around 1pm, suspects cut through the fence of a property in Chattan Road, Glenferness. They broke a window to get into the house and triggered the alarm. They then fled the scene.
“I would like to commend the efforts of all stakeholders in the area for their commitment to crime management. This includes community members, the police and private security providers. The low crime rate is a result of the combined resources and efforts of all parties,” said Humphrey.
He urged Fourways residents not to become complacent and encouraged them to keep setting their alarms, locking doors and checking their security systems.
He also said that both business owners and residents should be extra cautious about criminals posing as service providers.
“It is important not to allow strangers onto your property, no matter what they claim their business is, and to educate your staff about the dangers of opening the gate to someone you are not expecting. If you are expecting workmen, contractors or deliveries, please ensure you brief your staff before they arrive,” he said.
Humphrey recommended that residents should always ask for identification and further verify this by contacting the police station, security provider or business the person claims to work for if they are unsure in any way.
“It is better to be safe than sorry. If you feel something is out of place, report it to the police or your security provider immediately,” he said.
