Star pupil soars
MIDRAND - Summerhill College pupil, Kerrinah Chikavhanga, is doing her school, family and community proud.
The devoted pupil has just achieved amazing success by receiving the Top Mark in Economics in South Africa as part of the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards programme.
The Cambridge qualification is internationally recognised and over 40 countries worldwide participate in it.
Summerhill College started in 2009 with just 10 students in a converted farmhouse, but now educates 121 students and features a full extra-curricular programme, as well as excellent academics.
While Chikavhanga’s teachers and principal are extremely proud of her achievement they are also not surprised by it. Executive-principal, Sonja Anderson-Morshead, describes her as an “absolutely lovely young lady”.
Chikavhanga admits that she’s set the bar very high. She added, “I’m happy but it brings more pressure for the next exam!”
She is originally from Zimbabwe but her family moved to South Africa in 2008.
She explains that the reason she decided to pursue a Cambridge qualification was because her parents both studied through the Cambridge system and also because she knew it was internationally recognised.
Chikavhanga knows that achieving such success does not come easy and has dedicated herself to her studies.
Her top studying tip is “write lots and lots of notes”. She is especially grateful to her school and tutors who, she says, “are available anytime you want”.
Although she received top honours for her talent in Economics, her favourite subject is Accounting and she plans to study Chartered Accountancy at The University of Cape Town.
