Curro Midrand launches cross-country season with spirited interhouse competition
Curro Midrand High School learners showed determination, resilience, and school spirit during the school's 2026 interhouse cross country event, setting the tone for an exciting season ahead.
Curro Midrand High School officially kicked off its 2026 cross-country season with its interhouse cross country event, bringing learners together.
The interhouse competition brought together athletes from the school’s houses: blue Hawks, red Eagles, and green Falcons.
All the runners from these houses displayed eagerness to test their endurance, while proudly representing their teams in a spirited competition.

Throughout the competition, learners pushed themselves beyond their limits. While the competition was fierce, the focus remained on perseverance, teamwork, and giving their best effort.
Teachers praised every participant for their commitment and sportsmanship, noting that the event marked the beginning of what promises to be an exciting cross-country season.
History teacher and cross-country coach Seipati Mathabe expressed how she felt about the participation from learners. “Most learners show a lot of enthusiasm towards the interhouses. Learners who don’t usually participate are participating today, and that is motivating. It makes me excited to sign them up.”

Whether athletes crossed the finish line among the leaders or simply completed the course, each participant contributed to the success of the day, demonstrating the values that Curro Midrand strives to instil in its learners.
The interhouse competition serves as an important stepping stone for athletes preparing to compete at district, provincial, and national level later this year.
Curro Midrand plays an important role in this year’s cross-country calendar as the school prepares to host the D9 District Championships, the Gauteng Provincial Championships, and the SA Schools National Cross Country Championships.
Head of sports Jaco Blom said he is excited at the school hosting these events.
“Hosting these big events provides learners with an opportunity to compete against some of the country’s best young athletes, while showcasing the school’s commitment to developing sporting excellence.”
With the season now started, the school is looking forward to seeing its athletes continue to grow, improve, and represent the school with pride throughout the year.
