Horse therapy to help the disabled
On Saturday 14 September Bluemoon Equine Assisted Therapy Program will be hosting an event at Liedjieboer pub in Glen Austin to raise funds for their work with underprivileged communities with disabilities.

The event will feature music by 1925, Johnny and the Bomb and Mercury Sage and will be hosted by Mix 93.8 FM’s Rustin Hornsby.
The Bluemoon Equine Assisted Therapy Program uses horse riding and interaction with horses to aid in physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychotherapy for people with physical, mental and emotional difficulties.
Nicky de Lange from Bluemoon Equine Assisted Therapy Program said, “The program is run on two levels. These are the paid program for those who can afford it and the sponsored program. The instructors donate fifty percent of their earnings from able bodied clients to the sponsored program enabling them to help children and adults from disadvantaged situations. In the sponsored program we currently help Irene Homes for mentally disabled ladies and Yenzani Children’s home in Noordwyk and have more requests for help every day.”
De Lange explained that the money from the fundraising event would go towards paying outside psychologists and occupational therapists who are sometimes called in to help underprivileged patients.
De Lange said, “At the moment we pay for the upkeep of the horses and the specialists out of our own pockets but we hope that the fundraiser will allow us to continue helping disadvantaged people and also start helping more people. We also appeal to local businesses and individuals who would like to sponsor the program.”
