Children to attend enviromental conference

Eight children from New Jerusalem Childrens' Home and four from other areas will be attending the 2013 Spar Future Warriors Environmental Conference in Durban on 24 until 27 September. Four learners from Ebony Park Primary, five from African Union International School, one from Rosebank Primary and a learner from Reddam School will be escorted by three chaperones to the conference. Four of the children will be presenting on the first eco-friendly container house in Africa.

The learners are Aurora Kwakwadi, Boy-Boy Masemola, John Sibanda, Charity Sondiyazi, Nontobeko Kubayi, Emmanuel Moyane, Nomzamo Mlengana, Katlego Mogotsi, Faith Mugwenda, Zolile Ngcingana, Ababalwa Mvengashe and Aphelele Ngcingana.

Masemola, a 14-year-old from African Union International School said, “I feel excited that I will be presenting on Africa’s first eco-friendly container house at the conference in Durban. The theme for this year is recyclable material, and our container is made up of 80% recyclable material.”

Masemola is a signatory to 2011 African Children’s Conference on environment where he pledged to no littering and buying only ozone-friendly products.

One of the Ebony Park Primary School representatives is 12-year-old Charity Nana Sondiyazi. She said, “I am very excited to be part of the delegation going to the conference. I love to sing, I always see myself as a celebrity.”

Phina Mojapelo, one of the chaperones commented, “The children are between 10 and 15 years old; they will be chaperoned by Katlego Mojapeo, Tinashe Mativenga and myself.”
