Residents concerned about vacant house

A VACANT HOUSE in Noordwyk is causing security concerns for residents.

The house has been vacant for the past two years and there is growing concern that criminals will continue to use the property to gain access to neighbouring homes. Residents claimed that calls to the police station were not answered.

Constable Matome Tlamela said, “The vacant house has been used as an escape route by criminals before. The sector commander and the crime forum team are investigating the ownership of the house. At the moment it has not been established who the rightful owners are.

“On Monday, on the same street where the vacant house is, there was a house robbery and property to the value of R150 000 was stolen. Residents must be on alert and quickly call Midrand Police Station if they notice any criminal activity.”

Ward 92 councillor Leepile Motsumi said, “We were not aware there is a vacant house in Noordwyk that is causing residents to not feel safe. We will investigate the matter to establish who the owner is, whether it is privately owned or a bank repossession.”

Anyone with any information on the property in Rooihout Street Noordwyk can contact Midrand Police Station on 011-347-1600
