The first incident involved a 35-year-old man who was arrested after he pointed a firearm at – and assaulted – a colleague after work in Segal Street, Vorna Valley on 2 October.
According to the complainant, while he was on his way home he was approached by his collegue, who appeared to be very angry with him. The suspect pulled out his firearm and pointed it at the complainant and also pistol-whipped him.
Communication officer for Midrand police, Constable Matome Tlamela, said a case of assault and pointing of a firearm was under investigation, and the gun used was found to be an illegal firearm.
“Further charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm will be added to the current charges and the suspect will appear in court soon,” said Tlamela.
In the second case, a 29-year-old man was arrested after he pointed a firearm at a complainant in Kyalami on 6 October
Tlamela said the suspect found the complainant playing cards with his friend and asked to join them, however the complainant refused.
The suspect was upset and went to his residential address to pick up a firearm and returned to where he left the complainant. Upon his arrival he withdrew his firearm and pointed it at the complainant and threatened to shoot him.
The complainant reported the case to Midrand police.
Midrand police’s Captain Lionel Chetty, together with his crime prevention team, visited the suspect’s address and as part of the investigation they managed to recover the unlicensed firearm from the suspect’s house.
The suspect will appear in court facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and pointing of a firearm.
