The Midrand police communications officer, Constable Matome Tlamela, said security guards working at Fountain View complex were arrested for a break in. “Security guards on duty conspired with security guards that were not on shift to break into a unit at the complex. The suspects stole a laptop, Sony Plasma TV with an estimated value of R13 000.
“All the suspects were caught while in possession of stolen goods. The owner of the unit identified the items positively as his.”
Tlamela added, “The suspects will appear in court on changes of house-breaking, theft and possession of stolen property.”
The security manager of Fountain View complex, Freek Soer said, “The police arrested our security guards, I asked why they were arresting them when the guards had helped the police catch the suspects. The police said security guards were often behind the break-ins in complexes, it is standard procedure to arrest them.
“The police told us that security guards will have to prove their innocence in court, but I know they had nothing to do with the theft.”
