Midrand police communication officer Constable Matome Tlamela said the suspects gained entry through an open door and pointed a firearm at the complainant and his wife.
The suspects took the victims’ cellphones, two laptops and a firearm. Immediately after the suspects left the house, the complainant took his rifle and followed them.
The robbers noticed they were being followed and fired a shot at the complainant. The man returned fire and hit one of the suspects who died at the scene. A second suspect was also shot by the complainant and was admitted to hospital, while the third is at large.
All the stolen items were recovered. The police are investigating.
