Robbers caught red-handed

VORNA VALLEY - Three suspects, including a gardener, have been sentenced to 12 years in prison for house robbery.

They stole items to the value of R230 000 from a house in Kokkewiet Street in Vorna Valley on 12 October.

The complainant and his wife were eating breakfast at about 9am when four armed men entered the house and ordered the couple to lie down.

The couple were tied up and taken to a bedroom. The suspects demanded firearms, money and jewellery, but did not find any money.

They stole the couple’s vehicle, cellphones, jewellery, computers and other items.

Warrant Officer (first name?) Lamola investigated the case and the four suspects were arrested in Yeoville on 13 October by Alexandra Tactical Response Team members. The vehicle and some of the goods were recovered.

Midrand Police Station Commander Colonel Steven Moodley commended everyone involved in the investigation.

Midrand police offered the following tips to avoid being injured during a robbery:

  • Your life is more valuable than your possessions
  • If you hear a noise outside, please don’t go out – rather call a sector vehicle for assistance
  • Do not resist, especially if the attacker has a weapon
  • Give up and obey the instructions of the attacker with no questions asked and move away if possible
  • Don’t try to be a hero because you can be killed
