“One of the robbers hit the complainant on the head and the suspects climbed into a white Mazda that was waiting on Lever Road. R5 000 cash was stolen and a cellphone.”
The owner of the vehicle told police that the suspects had kidnapped him. However, he was arrested after giving contradictory statements of the accounts of his kidnapping.
Tlamela said, “He tried to open a false case. He has been arrested for business robbery.”
Engen spokesperson Bulelwa Payi said, “It is unfortunate that a crime was committed at one of our branches. We are tirelessly committed to ensuring safety at the forecourts. Our staff have been re-trained on emergency preparedness.
Our dealers work closely with local police stations to encourage visibility at all the sites. The police are investigating the matter.”
