In search of fair deals
MIDRAND - Buyers were treated to an annual sourcing fair.
Global Sources opened its fourth annual China Sourcing Fairs in Johannesburg at the Gallagher Convention Centre.
The fairs ran from 7 to 9 November, and featured a comprehensive array of quality products from Chinese and Asian suppliers.
President of Global Sources Exhibitions, Tommy Wong said, “The turnout of visitors at our Johannesburg Fairs shows the demand for high quality China- and Asian-made products in Africa.”
Wong added that a Global Sources buyer survey revealed that more than half of the surveyed buyers in Africa are now sourcing products from Asian suppliers to improve product mix and competitiveness.
According to Global Sources, trade between China and Africa is booming. In 2012, the total volume of Sino-African trade increased by 19.3 percent to US$198 billion.
“Our Fairs are the perfect platform for African buyers to connect with Asian and Chinese manufacturers and secure the products they need to grow,” said Wong. –
The Fairs featured a comprehensive conference programme where experts explained the cultural differences between African buyers and Chinese suppliers. Experts gave advice on how to avoid pitfalls when importing from China and discussed the need to secure a good price when placing small orders. –
