Truck driver hijacked

MIDRAND - A truck driver was robbed of goods worth R1 million during a hi-jacking in Midrand.

He was on his way to deliver industrial valves for mines to Kyalami Business Park at around 10am on 8 November when the incident occured.

Midrand police communication officer Constable Matome Tlamela said, “According to the complainant, while he was driving along Allandale Road, a black Opel Corsa with an unknown registration number hooted at him and pointed to the truck’s back tyre. The complainant stopped to check the tyre and suddenly a brown sedan stopped behind the truck.”

Tlamela said four suspects pretended to be lost, and while the complainant was giving them directions to Gallagher Estate, one of the suspects pointed a firearm at him and forced him back into the truck where he was put on the passenger seat.

“The driver was forced to lie down on the seat and one of the suspects sat on him. After some time the suspects dropped the complainant off at the Juskei River in Diepsloot.”

Tlamela said the hi-jacked truck had not yet been recovered and no arrests had been made.

“Police are still busy investigating the case of truck hijacking hoping to bring suspects to book.”
