Two hijackings, no arrests

MIDRAND - A man was hijacked on Lupton Drive, Halfway House on 22 November at 8.30pm.

Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela said, according to the complainant, while he was driving on Lupton Drive, heading towards the R101, a purple Corsa Lite drove towards him in the direction of oncoming traffic and bumped his car from the front.

Tlamela said, “The complainant immediately stopped to check the damages, however three men got out of the Corsa and [one suspect] pointed a firearm at him.”

The men forced the complainant into the back seat of his car and ordered him to lie down so that he could not see anything.

The suspects took the complainant’s three bank cards, together with pin codes. They then drove with the complainant to an ATM and withdrew money from all the complainant’s cards.

The suspects also took the complainant’s jackets, wedding ring and cellphone.

Tlamela continued, “While the suspects were driving around with the complainant, he heard one of the suspects saying there was police. Suddenly the suspects jumped out of the hijacked vehicle and ran away. The complainant’s car then rolled back and bumped another person’s car in Rabie Ridge.”

Tlamela said the complainant’s car was recovered and no one has been arrested yet, but police are investigating.

Meanwhile, another hijacking occurred on Ridge Road in Glen Austin at around 1.30pm on 23 November.

Tlamela said the complainant was surprised by three armed suspects, while he was driving. One pointed a firearm at him and forced him into the boot of his car. However, the suspects suddenly dropped the complainant at Marlboro Bridge behind the Gautrain Station and drove off with his car.

The vehicle has not been recovered and no one has been arrested yet.
