A 40-year-old man was arrested by Constables Enock and Mhlanga for attempted murder and possession of a hijacked vehicle at Terling Road in Kyalami on 11 December at 4am.
Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela said the police were patrolling the area when they spotted the suspect’s vehicle and they followed it. There were two occupants in the car.
“Suddenly the passenger began to shoot at the police, while the driver was driving away from the police. No one was injured during the shooting. During the chase, the driver drove into a construction pit, and the police managed to arrest one of the suspects, who was later hospitalised for medical attention,” said Tlamela.
She said upon further investigation, the suspects’ car was found to be hijacked in Alexandra.
The suspect will appear in court soon.
