Two burglaries while owners at home

MIDRAND - Two house robberies occurred while the complainants were at home.

A house-breaking and theft occurred on Black Hood Street in Noordwyk on 10 January. The suspects stole computers worth R30 000 while the owner was in the house.

Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela said, “According to the complainant, while he was asleep he heard his kitchen door being kicked open, and the alarm went off. The complainant took his firearm and locked himself inside a room. The security company and police responded to the complainant, but upon their arrival the suspects were already gone.”

Tlamela said the complainant came out immediately once the police and the security company had arrived. Upon further investigation he noticed that his kitchen door had been forced open and two computers and monitors had been stolen.

The suspects are unknown and the police are investigating.

At a property on Belvedere Road in Glen Austin, a burglary occurred and property worth an estimated R100 000 was stolen, including a plasma TV and a CCTV camera.

Tlamela said, “According to the complainant, she was cleaning upstairs when she heard the door being forced opened and people talking inside the house. The complainant hid under the bed in the bedroom, and called the police for assistance. “The suspects are unknown and the police are investigating the case,” said Tlamela.

Midrand police offered the following tips to avoid getting hurt during a robbery:

  • Your life is more valuable than your possessions.
  • If you hear a noise outside, don’t go out but rather call the sector vehicle for assistance.
  • Do not resist, especially if the attacker has a weapon.
  • Give up and obey the attacker’s instructions. Don’t ask questions and move away if possible.
  • Don’t try to be a hero because you can lose your life.
