Midrand police arrested 25 people for serious crimes and 21 for minor offences.
There was a 15 percent increase in serious crime but a decrease of 13 percent for residential house-breaking.
Midrand police’s communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela commented, “The trends indicate that Monday, Tuesday and Saturday are problematic days.”
Property related crime, such as theft out of motor vehicles, theft of motor vehicles, house-breaking and general theft, decreased by 41 percent.
Tlamela said Midrand police would be engaging in more patrols, along with sector crime forums and their patrol teams, to increase visibility in order to curtail crime.
