Midrand police communications spokesperson Constable Matome Tlamela said the man gave three unknown men a lift from a tavern in Midrand and was on the way to Tembisa when he was hijacked.
“According to the complainant, while he was driving along the K101 the suspects pushed him out of the vehicle and drove off with his car. The vehicle was reported and recovered the same day by tracker on the N1 north New Road offramp,” said Tlamela.
The complainant identified the suspects and police are investigating.
Midrand police issued tips to avoid a hijacking situation:
- Know your environment.
- Get to know who belongs in the vicinity of your home or workplace and who does not.
- Keep your eyes open for anything out of the ordinary.
- Lock all doors and close windows before driving off.
- Try to vary your route to places visited regularly.
- Ensure all your mirrors are adjusted to give you an optimal all-round view of your surroundings.
- Try to stop about 5m behind the car in front of you at a traffic light – it makes an easier getaway if trouble arises.
Do not be fooled by:
- False appeals for help.
- Accidents such as having your car rammed from behind.
- Someone trying to get help from a stationary car.
- Your electric gate being jammed.
