Zero percent matric pass school closed

THE principal of Boulders Techno School, Prince Sinamane has confirmed the school has been shut down.

On the morning of 24 January, Sinamane told Midrand Reporter that the school had just been closed. “The reason the school was closed is because of the zero percent pass for the class of 2013,” he said. “I had a meeting to let the parents know that the school will be closed.” When asked who closed the school, Sinamane was only prepared to say “some officials came to close the school”.

In response to whether the school will refund parents, Sinamane said, “No one will be refunded as no one paid for February yet. January fees will not be refunded as pupils attended classes.”

The Department of Education’s spokesperson Pumla Sekhonyane said, “The department is currently evaluating the performance of subsidised and non-subsidised schools, including Boulders Techno School. This will guide future interventions.”

There has been no official confirmation or reasons given for the school’s closure.

A concerned parent who did not want to be named said her daughter was in Grade 1 at the school last year and when it opened in January the fees were raised to R1 950, then claimed Sinamane re-advertised the fees as R1 400.

The school made headlines after it was reported that the school had a zero percent matric pass last year. All six matric pupils failed. In response Sinamane said, “The pupils were not A students and they were all in remedial class.” Sinamane confirmed the school fees for 2013 were R1 600.
