The armed man was arrested next to the Midrand taxi rank on 30 January after he had committed a robbery at a restaurant close by the day before.
Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela said, “According to the complainant, he went to the toilet at a restaurant [where] he was approached by two unknown men who pointed a knife at him and strangled him.
“The suspects took the man’s cellphone and left him in the toilet.”
Tlamela said the following day the complainant spotted one of the suspects and alerted Midrand police who responded quickly and were able to apprehend him.
“The police are investigating the case, hoping to bring the other suspect to book,” she said.
