Car-jamming remains high

MIDRAND - Police advise people to beep and check before leaving their cars.

This after the increase of theft out of vehicles due to the use of car-jamming devices in shopping mall parking areas.

Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela said, “On 31 January at 8:20pm, a complainant parked his vehicle at the parking area and went to do shopping at San Ridge shopping centre.

“He locked his vehicle with a remote control and after shopping he went home. Upon his arrival home, he noticed that his laptop was stolen.”

Another theft out of a motor vehicle occurred at the centre on Lever Road.

“The complainant alleged that she parked her vehicle at San Ridge shopping centre with all doors and windows properly locked and he went shopping,” said Tlamela.

“She returned to her car the same day and drove home. Upon her arrival, she noticed that her laptop, DVD player, documents and house keys were stolen.

“There was no sign of forced entry.”

The police are investigating both cases and hope to bring the suspects to book.
