The truck driver was hijacked in Glen Austin on Olifantsfontein Road on 4 February.
Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela said, “According to the complainant, while he was driving along Olifantsfontein Road, he heard a sound, however he continued to drive. A red vehicle then drove past him and indicated that he bumped their vehicle.”
The complainant was then stopped by a marked Metro police vehicle with a siren and two officers in full uniform. Tlamela said the truck driver obeyed the Metro police but they left the scene without talking to the him.
“The complainant got out of the truck to check for damage on the vehicle he was accused of bumping,” she said. Tlamela said one of the suspects then pointed a gun at him and ordered him to get into the hijackers’ vehicle.
“There were three occupants and they drove off with him,” she said.
It is alleged the hijackers told the driver to tell the police that Metro cops had hijacked him.
After a few hours he was dropped off in Florida and the suspects’ vehicle was recovered the same day by tracker at Boshoff Street in President Park.
A 38-year-old suspect was arrested by Midrand police. Tlamela said police were investigating, and hoped to bring the other suspects to book soon.
