Driving residents around the bend
MIDRAND - There is an increase in complaints about motorcycles and quad bikes.

Midrand Forum spokesperson Al Karaki said there have been complaints about motorcycles and quads in Vorna Valley.
“There is an alarming increase of complaints from residents regarding unlicensed motorcycles and motorbikes. In Jamie Uys Street children race down the street on quad bikes with no helmets on.”
Asked if the matter had been reported to the police, Karaki said, “We have put out the word that people should report the incidents and the location or addresses so that we can report to the police.”
Ward 112 councillor Leverne Young also mentioned the problem of quad bikes on Jamie Uys Street and the park. “Parents have to take responsibility. In Jamie Uys Street children have been riding quad bikes fast with no protective gear on. The roads are not the place for quads.
“We have had the same problem of children riding quad bikes in the Vorna Valley park. Parents must know the park is not for bikes. It disrupts the use of the park for other members of the public.”
Metro police spokesperson Edna Mamonyane said no licence is needed for quad bikes. “Any parent who buys a quad bike for use on our public roads is putting their child’s life in danger. There are dirt parks where people can ride quad bikes.”
Mamonyane said people must use trailers to transport the bikes to the location. In response to unlicensed motorcycles, Mamonyane said, “Anyone who breaks road rules and drives a motorcycle without licensing will be fined.”
