Robbed at the accident scene

MIDRAND - Armed suspects intentionally bumped into a complainant's vehicle on Old Pretoria Road in order to rob him at 8.15am on 17 March.

The Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela said the complainant reported the incident and armed hijacking case was opened. According to Tlamela, a driver of a BMW car bumped into the complainant’s car while driving on Old Pretoria Road in Halfway House.

“He immediately stopped to check the damages, suddenly the driver of the BMW pointed a firearm at him and took a cell phone, laptop and wallet containing R300 and drove away. The value of stolen items can be estimated to R15 000 00,” said Tlamela.

She said no arrests have been made yet but police are hoping to bring the suspects to book.

She warned, “When you are bumped (into) and you don’t feel safe to stop at the scene, drive straight to the police station or to the nearest safer place to check for the damages and to exchange the details with the other party involved in the accident. This is the best thing to do to avoid being the carjacking’s and robbery victims.”
