Don’t panic, report an emergency

SUN VALLEY - Sun Valley's domestic workers will be educated on the police's role and how to call for help in an emergency.

Penny Steyn of Making a Difference campaign’s domestic watch and police customer training said the lesson for April was titled, In the Line of Duty – Our Police Commitment.

She said the lessons would teach domestic workers to call the 10 111 number, and how to report an emergency.

The Sun Valley lessons are hosted by Bonnie Friedman at La Fiorentina restaurant on the corners of Champion and Bridle Pass roads.

April’s lesson will be held at 11am on 17 April.

The Sun Valley domestic watch sees a group of loyal workers who attend monthly and enjoy being informed on crime prevention tips and catching up on the neighbourhood crime news.

Representatives of Midrand police often attend the meetings too and inform them about crime trends and tips.

Steyn said the domestic watch programme was a force to be reckoned with as domestic workers know about the happenings in suburbs and said it helped to inform the police.

She said in areas where domestic watch meetings were held and well-attended, police reported that crime had reduced.
