Pupils having a ball

NOORDWYK - On the last day of the school term Noordwyk Primary pupils were already looking forward to returning to school after the holidays.

This is thanks to members of the Midrand Learner Transport Association who distributed soccer balls, balls for netball and water bottles to the pupils to motivate them to get active on the sports field.

Noordwyk Primary opened its doors at the beginning of the school year and the association with the help of MTN decided to donate the sports items.

The pupils attended assembly on the last day of the school term and sang for the executive committee of the association. The school’s principal, Lynelle Marx extended her thanks to the association for their kind sponsorship as well as for their continued support in getting the children through the school gates safely.

The association has about 120 drivers that transport children to and from schools all over Midrand daily and is affiliated to the Gauteng Education Transport Services.

There are also patrollers who guide the traffic around schools and ensure pupils are dropped off safely at school. They also ensure that pupils are not carrying weapons or have drugs in their possession.

Public relations officer of the association, Brian Govenders believed that getting pupils to and from school safely was one of the biggest challenges in the Midrand area, and believed the association was becoming a force to be reckoned with in assisting to alleviate this problem.
