Region A plans for the future

MIDRAND - The CITY of Joburg held a consultative meeting with councillors, ward committee members and residents from Region A at Midrand High School.

The consultative process gives the residents an opportunity to provide input into the draft 2014/2015 Integrated Development Plan and draft budget of R47.4 billion.

Councillor Nonceba Molwele, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Health and Social Development of the City of Johannesburg spoke extensively about key developments influencing the plan.

“Since the adoption of the City’s priorities, there has been tremendous progress, however improvements in some areas are still needed. We have these consultations because the City has a responsibility to revise its five year plan on an annual basis.”

Regional director, Abigail Ndlovu gave an overview of the Capital Expenditure and Operational Expenditure reports. “We are here today so that we can review last financial year’s progress and to get input from residents about what they would like to see in the next financial year’s budget,” she said.

Ndlovu said that, among other projects, “Solar geysers were installed in Mayibuye, Kanana and Rabie Ridge. Funds for maintenance for City Parks were allocated and the grass cutting project began on 10 April.”

One of the projects currently underway was the construction of the Le Roux Avenue Bridge which will cost R35.7 million. Installation of street lights along West, Dane and Dalmation roads in President Park cost the city council R2.2 million.
