Resident grateful that manhole has been fixed
NOORDWYK - Resident that lives in Essenwood Estate in Midrand said he is grateful that the manhole in his property has finally been fixed.
“Due to flooding and a wetland on the edge of the property, there was damage to the wall and a manhole on the property. Johannesburg Water sent a team around 4 April to fix the manhole that had expanded and gave way due to heavy rains in January and mid February. The area has now been stabilised. I appreciate this as my family’s safety was at stake with a manhole and a collapsed wall.”
Naidu and his family live next to a wetland and swampy area. He said when it rains his property is totally water logged. “I am still trying to get other parties involved to come and attend to the outstanding list of things to be done here before my insurance pays for the wall to be rebuilt.”
“I know we always complain that councillors do not respond to our requests but my issue was attended to by Joburg Water after councillor Leverne intervenned. I appreciate that.” He said.
Johannesburg Water spokesperson Milicent Kabwe said Joburg Water had done work on Naidu’s property. “Our team needed to reinstate the area around the manhole to protect it from future flooding. I can confirm that the work is indeed complete.”
Ward 112 councillor Leverne Young said she knew about Naidu’s dilemma. “I escalated his issue and I am glad that Joburg Water has attended to the manhole in his property.”
Naidu’s insurance will not pay to rebuild the wall until some municipal issues such as water logging and the manhole have been fixed. “We live in a corner plot and my fear is that with the wall not fixed, criminals will take advantage of that, but at least on the the municipal issues have been dealt with.”
