Joburg Water’s spokesperson Millicent Kabwe said, “The reason for the water upgrades is to improve the pressure management systems and to upgrade the aging infrastructure in the Midrand area. The whole project which began on 9 June will cost R6million.”
She added that residents will be notified seven days in advance if water will be shut off during the five-month long upgrades. “At this point there is no scheduled shut-off yet,” she said.
The water mains will be replaced on the following streets:
- Whiskin Avenue
- Eighth Road
- Kyalami Boulevard
- Meordyk Street
- Gerard Street
- Harry Galaun Road
- Tambotie Road
- Canart Street
Ward 112 stand-in councillor Annette Deppe said, “This project was one of the requested issues in the Integrated Development Plan’s Capital Budget, we are grateful to Joburg Water for including it in the budget. The upgrade will help in sustainable water provision to residents.”
