This according to a resident on the Facebook page of People of Midrand.
The centre’s manager, Gaenor Fairley said, “We are aware of the incident that took place [on the night of 26 August] at our centre. It is an area issue. The whole of Midrand is experiencing a problem with chancers. We will be co-operating with Midrand police.
“The police will be conducting an awareness drive around the centre’s banks. We are calling on customers to be more vigilant.”
Details of the woman whom the card reportedly belonged to are unclear. However, the incident is said to have taken place at around 7pm. It is also not known how the men got hold of her card.
Midrand police’s Constable Matome Tlamela could not confirm the incident as a case was yet to be opened. However, she confirmed that police would indeed be embarking on an awareness campaign together with the South African Banking Risk Information Centre.
“The drive will be centred around the three problematic banks. That is, FNB in Carlswald, Absa at Boulders Shopping Centre and Standard Bank at San Ridge Square,” she said.
